Frequently Asked Questions

  • When do I need to sign up for Medicare Part B?

You are typically eligible to sign up for Medicare Part B during your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP), which begins three months before the month you turn 65 and ends three months after the month you turn 65. If you delay enrolling in Part B, you may incur a late enrollment penalty and have to wait for the General Enrollment Period (January 1 - March 31) to sign up.

  • Do I need a Medicare Supplement or a Medicare Advantage Plan?

The choice between a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan and a Medicare Advantage plan depends on your individual healthcare needs and preferences. Medicare Supplement plans provide additional coverage to fill the gaps in Original Medicare, while Medicare Advantage plans offer all-in-one coverage through private insurance companies. A broker can help you compare the benefits and costs of each option to determine which plan best suits your needs.

  • Do I need a Prescription Drug plan?

If you have Original Medicare (Parts A and B) and do not have prescription drug coverage through another source, such as an employer or union plan, you may want to consider enrolling in a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (Part D). These plans provide coverage for prescription medications and help you manage your healthcare costs.

  • I’m disabled, can I sign up for Medicare?

Individuals under 65 who have been receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits for at least 24 months or who have been diagnosed with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) are eligible for Medicare. Enrollment eligibility and requirements may vary based on your specific situation, so it's important to review your options with a broker.

  • Why should I meet with a broker?

Meeting with a broker can provide valuable assistance and guidance in navigating the complexities of Medicare. Brokers are knowledgeable about the various Medicare options available and can help you understand your coverage choices, compare plans, and find the best solution for your healthcare needs and budget. Their expertise and personalized service can save you time and ensure that you make informed decisions about your Medicare coverage.
